Le projet GEPEMU (Gestion des Evènements Pluvieux Extrêmes en Milieu Urbanisé et traitement de l’effluent spécifique généré) s’inscrit dans un contexte national en relation à un projet de recherche du programme ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche la Recherche), ECCO. Le titre du projet est "Hydrologie et hydraulique des milieux urbanisés" (HY²VILLE).
Ce projet – auquel participe ll'équipe- traite du comportement hydrologique des zones urbanisées pour lesquelles la gestion des risques et la protection de l’environnement occupent actuellement une place croissante. Ce projet regroupe le Laboratoire de Mécanique des Fluides et Acoustique de Lyon (LMFA), l’UMR HydroSciences (HSM), le CEMAGREF (groupement de Lyon), l’U.R. Hydrologie-Hydraulique (URGC), l’Institut de Recherche des Sciences et Techniques de la ville (IRSTV), le Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussées, le Laboratoire de Mécanique des Fluides de Nantes (LMF) et le LTHE de Grenoble. Il s’agit de la gestion hydraulique de l’inondation dans la ville avec la maîtrise des volumes générés par ces événements pluvieux extrêmes, maîtrise, qui passe par une connaissance fine de la distribution des débits au sein de la ville à travers ses carrefours. Les attentes portent autant sur les prévisions du comportement hydraulique des lames d’eau sur la structure de la voirie urbaine, que sur les impacts en termes d’aménagement urbain.
